There are many reasons why this is important. The first reason, of course, is the easy and simple way to understand how each test measures one’s intelligence and how that results in an accurate determination of a student’s ability.

The second reason is to provide some perspective on the differences between the tests in question. You will have noticed that some students think that they will receive one or two points for every subject they know and then the final score is the total of all the subjects in which they appear to know everything. This is not true. Here is what the actual test says about it.

“Each quiz answers three or four words in the context of a particular concept category; however, the questions do not try to convert your knowledge into numerical scores.” The scoring is based solely on the student’s comprehension of the material being tested, so there is no factor in the results for an ability to come up with a number.

While this is a great benefit to students, the disadvantages to standardized tests as means to assess ability are few and far between. The most common disadvantage of standardized tests is that it takes away the child’s individuality, their ability to shine and express their talents.

Standardization of tests as means to assess abilities has not proven itself to be good for society. It is best avoided, but the benefits of standardized tests may be overstated. I have seen many cases where standardized tests as means to assess ability resulted in a child who was not gifted or talented becoming a higher level educational level.

Children can excel in certain areas even when they are not gifted, and others can excel at only one or two. Parents should keep in mind that there are no gifted children and no less gifted children. It does not matter how many high schools their child attends, it does not matter how much talent they have in any area. They are gifted by nature and inborn.

When standardized tests as means to assess ability are administered, there is no room for personality differences between test takers. Everyone appears the same, regardless of intellect or talents.

In high school, students are taught advanced courses and extracurricular activities. If you take standardized tests as means to assess ability and they are administered in high school, you will find out that more than half of the students tested scored above the minimum required for graduation.

The only reason they did not graduate is because these standardized tests were not administered to those with average or below average intelligence. The majority of the students had high IQ scores, so it is best not to compare these students with gifted children who scored lower.

What can you learn from standardized tests as means to assess a student’s ability? It is the old adage, “The test may be fooling you, but that is not the real you,” and if you take an individualized test, you can know the real you.

If your school district allows individualized tests to be given, you may be able to learn things that other perceptive minds cannot. You will discover more about yourself than you would ever have dreamed possible. and it will probably surprise you.

Most of the time, you will learn that you have a comparative advantage over someone else. If you are a good musician, you might find that your ability is of great value to a family that enjoys classical music. the symphony, the opera or the concerto-regent.
